Pharmacy Technician Certificate

The Pharmacy Technician Certificate Program prepares students to enter the pharmacy field and to pursue certification for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s (PTCB) CPhT exam.  Students will learn pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names.  Through classroom lecture and hands on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs”, I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement..

Contact hours icon   275 hours (including out of class work and 80 hrs of clinicals)  Prerequesites checklist icon   18 years or older, high-school diploma or equivalent, basic skills in computer usage and access to a computer with Internet at home or another location. 10th grade or higher math skills.

Students will participate in a holistic learning program that strengthens their ability to apply related knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform at a high level in life and on-the-job. In additions to Healthcare Technical Competencies, the curriculum effectively address the Personal Effectiveness, Academic and Workplace Competencies (Tiers 1-3) of the DOL-ETA Competency Model Pyramid
