Dr. Nur Rifat

Dr. Nur Rifat earned a B.S. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from United International University in 2013. After graduation, Dr. Rifat worked as a Research Engineer on projects related to renewable energy funded by the World Bank and electrical safety in ready-made garment factories funded by the International Labour Organization. After several years of professional experience, Dr. Rifat began his M.S. in physics at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where he worked under Prof. Gaurav Khanna. Dr. Rifat went on to earn a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Virginia under the supervision of Prof. Kent Yagi. His graduate research focused on modeling gravitational waveforms from astrophysical sources, particularly binary black hole mergers, using machine learning and numerical methods. Dr. Rifat joined the faculty at UCM in the fall of 2026. His research program focuses on applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computational methods to problems in gravitational-wave physics.
