Kenneth J. Schueller (Ken), came to the University of Central Missouri in 1999 as a Career Development Intern in the Office of Career Services for the purpose of adding a career development emphasis to a master’s degree in human resource development he was completing. Two years later, after retiring from the United States Air Force, Ken started his full-time career at UCM as a Career Counselor in the Office of Career Services.
Over the last 25 years Ken has held various positions at UCM that include Career Development Intern, Career Counselor, Assistant Director of Career Services, Instructor, Director of the Gateway Advising and Career Exploration Center, Director of Career Development Services, Director of Academic Success Advising, Director of Student Success, and Senior Director of Student Success. While the titles and the levels of responsibility have changed, the one constant has always been student success.
Ken has a deep-seated passion to invest in the holistic development of students, from helping them to identify and articulate their personal definition for success, identifying the best fit academic program, co-creating a plan to achieve it, and coaching them through to completion and beyond.
More than anything else, this is the legacy that he hopes to leave behind. To do so beyond his tenure at UCM, this endowment will be set up to honor those who clearly demonstrate that they are fully committed to doing the same each year through these awards.

Every spring, nominations for the Kenneth J. Schueller Outstanding Advisng Award are accepted in two categories: Academic Success Advisor & Faculty Mentor.
