Graduate Scholars Symposium

Graduate students, faculty, and staff from all disciplines are encouraged to present their research at the annual Graduate Scholars Symposium at the University of Central Missouri. This symposium takes place during the spring semester.

The goals of the symposium are to showcase the outstanding quality and diversity of graduate-level research at UCM, in addition to providing students with the opportunity to practice and enhance their communication skills with those outside of their discipline. This event also provides opportunities for all participants to interact with their peers while receiving feedback from faculty, staff, and colleagues.

 

New Online Category - E-entry!

New to the 2018 Symposium is an online category. E-entries will be available only to students enrolled in entirely online programs at UCM. Students will create a 3 minute voice over PPT to submit for judging and entry into the event. This category will be judged and receive awards separate from on campus entries.

All E-entries will be available for viewing on iPads during the day of the Symposium.

 

Dates

The 2018 Graduate Scholars Symposium will be held on Wednesday, April 18th, 2018 at the Elliot Student Union. Students who graduate in Fall 2018 are still eligible to apply. Deadline for application is Monday, February 19th, 2018. Students will be notified of acceptance by Monday, February 26th, 2018. Accepted students are required to attend at least one Symposium Workshop. See dates below.

Awards

Students who select to have their presentation entered into the student competition have the opportunity to win awards. The awards consists of a cash prize and certificate. There are two levels of awards, Level 1 - $100 and Level 2 - $50. The number of awards granted will vary based on the number of qualified applicants. Winners will be announced directly before the reception.

 

Poster and Presentation Guideline

 

Participation from all disciplines is encourage for this event. Both traditional posters and nontraditional entries are encouraged. If you wish to enter a performance or other similar works, please contact GER for assistance.

Event Schedule

 

April 18th, 2018

 

Set up of posters and judging of the student entries will take place in the morning and early afternoon. Judging times will assigned based on the student's availability.

 

3:00 pm - Keynote Speakers and Announcement of Awards

5:00 pm - Public Presentations and Reception
