MSG Zachary Smith

Assistant Professor of Military Science

MSG provides support for the program and teaches MS 3310 Platoon Operations and MS 3320 Applied Leadership 

  • Enlisted in the U.S. Army as an Infantryman in 2005
  • Over 16 years of experience including Assistant Gunner, Sniper, Sniper Team Leader and Section Leader, Reconnaissance Platoon Sergeant, Observer, Coach/Trainer, Mechanized Rifle Platoon Sergeant, Research Development Test  & Evaluation NCO, and First Sergeant.
Military Awards & Decorations include:
Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Ribbon (5 Knots), Iraqi Campaign Medal (3 CS), Global War on Terrorism Medal, Korean Defence Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Expert Infantrymans Badge, Combat Infantrymans Badge, Basic Airborne Badge, Air Assault wings, and the German Armed Forces Field and Proficiency Badge (Gold). 
Military Service includes:
Domestic: Fort Drum, NY D Company/2-14 IN 2005-2007, 2-14 IN Recon Platoon 2007-2012. Fort Polk, LA  162nd INF BDE, C Co/3-353rd RGT OC/T and Urban Operations NCOIC. Fort Hood, TX Platoon Sergeant for A Co/1-8 CAV 2014-2016, RDT&E NCO for Operational Test Command from 2016-2019. Fort Leonard Wood, MO 2019-2021 Company First Sergeant A Co/2-10 IN. 
International: Operation Iraqi Freedom (2006-2007) (2009-2010), Operation Blackjack Chromite (ROK) 2015-2016. 
Personal:
MSG Smith is married with one daughter and two step daughters. Gwendolyn 9, Elliot 11, and Addy 13. He spends his free time lifting weights, shooting guns, and painting miniature models.
