The University of Central Missouri (UCM) Gallery of Art and Design opens the 2025-26 academic year with a new exhibition and a slate of activities for the campus and Warrensburg communities.

The SVPA Faculty Show 2025 opens Monday, Aug. 25. This annual event showcases the creative research of faculty members in the School of Visual and Performing Arts (SVPA). In addition to current faculty members in the Division of Art and Design, this year’s exhibition will feature the work of two emeriti faculty members, Mick Luehrman and Richard Monson. The gallery will host an opening reception with light refreshments from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25. Admission is free.

The art faculty members at UCM are a dynamic group of artists involved in various artistic practices, including ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, textiles and sculpture. The works in the show include examples of these disciplines and more.

The show’s opening coincides with the annual Provost’s Faculty Showcase, which takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, in Hart Recital Hall. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy an evening of visual and performing arts on the UCM campus.

“Attendees can start the evening looking at visual art made by Art and Design faculty and then head over to Hart Recital Hall to watch performances by talented faculty in the divisions of Music and Theater and Dance,” Gallery Director Jamie Platt said. “These events are always dynamic on their own, and this year the combination promises to be even more so.”

The Kleppe Visiting Artist Lecture Series returns Monday, Aug. 25, with a lecture by Kansas City muralist JT Daniels. The lecture series takes place at 4 p.m. on Mondays in Wood 100. Admission is free and open to the public, and a virtual option is available. Free Zoom registration is required to attend virtually.

Artist-in-residence Hannah Lindo will lead a plein-air painting workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Cave Hollow Park in Warrensburg. No experience is necessary. Some supplies will be on hand for attendees to try. Registration is required.

The UCM Gallery of Art and Design is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with extended hours until 8 p.m. on Thursdays, and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free and open to the public.
