Grant Funding Allows Public Safety to Expand Safety Initiatives
Making the safety of students, employees and campus visitors a priority, the University of Central Missouri has established multiple initiatives to meet this goal with the help of $326,000 in grant funding since August 2022. The grant-funded projects initiated by the UCM Department of Public Safety are made possible by campus, local, state and federal sources, and include traffic safety education and equipment, impaired and hazardous driving enforcement, anti-terrorism equipment, protective equipment for police officers, and interoperable communications equipment.

UCM Public Safety Member Capt. Dan Othic Honored with Clarence M. Kelley Meritorious Service Award
More than 25 years of dedication to public service has led to regional recognition for Capt. Dan Othic, a longtime officer with the University of Central Missouri’s Department of Public Safety. He was recently honored as recipient of the Clarence M. Kelley Meritorious Service Award.

UCM Parking Services Implementing Digital License Plate Reading for Improved Parking Lot Patrol and Management
With plans to implement new technology to create more efficient, cost-effective parking lot patrol and management, the University of Central Missouri Department of Public Safety has obtained a new vehicle well equipped to assist in this effort. A step toward the future, Public Safety this summer purchased a hybrid 2023 Ford Maverick pickup with digital license plate reading capabilities that will be ready for deployment beginning Sept. 1.
