A person is seen in a professional portrait from the shoulders up. He is wearing a dark gray suit with a white shirt and red striped tie. Behind him, the FBI National Academy seal is partially seen.

Capt. Mike Papasifakis of the UCM Department of Public Safety has
graduated from the 298th session of the FBI National Academy.

Capt. Mike Papasifakis, assistant director of the University of Central Missouri (UCM) Department of Public Safety, has graduated as a member of the 298th session of the FBI National Academy.

Papasifakis is the seventh officer in department history to complete this prestigious program. Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced training in communication, leadership and fitness. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

The 298th session consisted of 255 law enforcement officers who graduated June 18 from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Along with men and women from 46 states and the District of Columbia, the class included members of law enforcement agencies from 26 countries, five military organizations and four federal civilian organizations.

"I am incredibly proud of Capt. Papasifakis for earning this distinction,” said Chief Bill Brinkley, director of Public Safety. “Mike has always been a dedicated leader, and the advanced insights and connections he’s bringing back will benefit our team and enhance our commitment to the UCM community.”

Papasifakis has been a member of the UCM Department of Public Safety since 1998. During his time with the department, Papasifakis has been a patrol officer, patrol sergeant and Parking Services sergeant. He served as the department's first K9 handler, having the opportunity to partner with two canines over 14 years. He was promoted to captain in September 2022.

He is also a two-time alumnus of UCM, earning a Bachelor of Science in Sociology in 1997 and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice in 2017.

Throughout his distinguished 28-year career, Papasifakis has worked to build relationships with partners at UCM and campuses nationwide, as well as local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Papasifakis is excited about the opportunity to use the skills he’s learned to continue fostering these relationships and build new ones.

About the FBI National Academy

FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training; many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields. Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits all the National Academy courses offered.

A total of 57,196 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.
