UCM Music Presents Guest Pianist Michael Clark: ‘Music Across Five Centuries’

The University of Central Missouri (UCM) Division of Music presents pianist Michael Clark in a solo performance of “XX26: Keyboard Music Across Five Centuries.”

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, in Hart Recital Hall in the Utt Building.

The program will highlight the evolution of keyboard music from the late 1500s through the present day. It begins with music by Spanish composer Francisco Correa de Arauxo; continues with music by J.S. Bach, Franz Schubert, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, and Bela Bartok; and concludes with works by American composer Florence Price and a young Australian composer, Sam Wu. 

Michael Clark, DMA, is an assistant professor of Piano at Baylor University. He is a leading scholar and advocate for the works of Florence Price (1887-1953), the first African-American composer to have their music performed by a major symphony orchestra. Clark has published a comprehensive edition of Price’s sheet music and recorded a pair of albums featuring her piano pieces.
