WARRENSBURG, MO – Having an outstanding reputation for quality criminal justice programs,
the University of Central Missouri recently received recognition for its online master’s
degree in the field. Following a review of similar programs for academic quality and
student satisfaction, BestColleges.com named UCM 23rd on a list of 25 for the nation’s
Top Online Master’s in Criminal Justice programs.
Results are published on the BestColleges.com website. Rankings were compile using
information from the Integrated Postsecondary Education System (IPEDS) and College
navigator Databases, both of which are sources maintained by the National Center for
Education Statistics. Metrics used to compile the top programs considered acceptance,
retention, graduation, and enrollment rates.
According to BestColleges.com, distance learning is becoming a significant part of
mainstream education, and UCM has demonstrated “a dedication to building a quality
program for working professionals who seek more flexibility than a traditional online
campus can provide. “ Programs, such as the online Master’s in Criminal Justice, allow
students, who might not otherwise have the opportunity, to build a strong foundation
for their careers.
“It’s an honor to be named,” said Laurel Hogue, vice provost for extended studies
at UCM, in commenting on the Best Colleges.com designation. “It is a credit to the
outstanding work our criminal justice faculty members put into developing online courses
and experiences for our students.”
BestColleges.com notes that an online degree is a convenient way to earn a college
education, just as thoroughly as traditional residential programs. Top programs offer
students access to experienced faculty members, flexible degree tracks and the same
information and resources they would find on campus. An online degree is a good way
to earn an education, especially for those who may be juggling work and family responsibilities.
While a bachelor’s degree is the minimum requirement for many positions in the criminal
justice field, a master’s degree opens up more opportunities for graduates in the
job market. A master’s degree in criminal justice “demonstrates proficiency in the
field and proves your dedication, professionalism and resilience,” according to BestColleges.com.
