UCM Named a LEGO® Education Academy Training Site

By Mike Greife, February 11, 2016

WARRENSBURG, MO – The University of Central Missouri has been designated a LEGO® Education Academy training site, authorized to train educators and business leaders in the use of LEGO Education solutions in their classrooms.

While generations of children have sharpened their creative skills using LEGO® bricks, LEGO Education has created innovative methods of bringing learning to the classroom, transforming the way learning takes place. LEGO Education provides the best digital and physical resources for hands-on learning that engages the imagination and problem-solving skills of students, motivating them to explore their own abilities, and bringing new leadership strategies to corporate structures.

UCM recently conducted a one-day LEGO Education Academy certification workshop at UCM-Lee’s Summit, providing training for 16 participants who will, in turn, conduct the workshops for educators in the designated service area and business customers throughout the country.

As a certified LEGO Education training site, UCM is authorized to provide LEGO Education Academy workshops to educators from the designated service area in west-central Missouri. LEGO Education trainers from UCM will provide instruction to educators on how to use LEGO Education products to teach their students to think creatively, enabling them to learn about science, technology, engineering and math. Research has shown that this kind of hands-on learning produces a deeper, more meaningful understanding of the world and its possibilities.

“This contract with LEGO Education builds on programming we offer each summer to K-12 teachers,” said Laurel Hogue, UCM vice provost for extended studies. “We look forward to incorporating similar training for our corporate partners. It is aprivilegeto work with LEGO Education, and we look forward to incorporating their methods into existing and future curriculum.

“We are excited to have UCM as the latest LEGO Education Academy training site,” said Steffanie Forbes, account manager for LEGO Education. “UCM is a welcome addition to provide hands-on learning and training in Central Missouri. We look forward to collaborating to meet educators’ needs.”
