UCM Welcomes American Legion Auxiliary Missouri Girls State

WARRENSBURG, MO – The University of Central Missouri will welcome more than 750 young women from across Missouri to campus June 26-July 2 as they experience democracy in action as citizens of the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State.

The tentative schedule of speakers for the week-long events includes Catherine Hanaway, former Speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives and Republican Missouri gubernatorial candidate, who will address the delegates on at 10:45 a.m. Monday morning. U.S. Senator Roy Blunt will address the group via Skype at 7 p.m. Monday evening.

U. S. Senator Claire McCaskill will speak at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, and Missouri Governor Jay Nixon will address the group at 7:30 p.m. that evening. On Wednesday, U.S. Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler will speak at 10:30 a.m. and Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway will address delegates at 7:45 p.m.

Eric Greitens, Republican gubernatorial candidate for Missouri governor, will return to Missouri Girls State to address delegates at 11 a.m. Thursday, and Judge Cynthia Martin of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, will speak at 11 a.m. Friday.

Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Missouri, the program provides hands-on experience in government and leadership through participation in a mock state government.
