WARRENSBURG, MO – KMOS-TV, the University of Central Missouri’s public broadcasting
station, has been nominated to receive a Regional Emmy award for its original magazine
series, “KMOS Presents Missouri Life.” The nomination was recently announced by the
Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The award
recipients will be announced at ceremonies on Oct. 1 in Branson.
The episode of the series under consideration in the category of “Magazine Program”
featured Columbia, Mo. In that episode, viewers were introduced to the mid-Missouri
community with segments on the Log Boat Brewery, The Wine Cellar and Bistro, the University
of Missouri Memorial Union and the Farmer’s Market. The program also included a profile
of artist Paul Jackson and a photo essay on Rockbridge Memorial State Park, the home
of the Devil’s Ice Box.
“KMOS Presents Missouri Life,” produced in collaboration with “Missouri Life” magazine,
first aired in the fall of 2015, with the second season now in production. The first
season took viewers on tours from the vineyards of Hermann to an alpaca ranch, a fly-fishing
school in Lebanon, and a gunstock factory in Warsaw. Viewers traveled back in time
with a living history event in Macon, the Old Drum trial re-enactment in Warrensburg,
and the Civil War battle of Lexington. In each episode, the history of a community
and profiles of interesting residents were part of the program.
“We are excited to learn of the nomination for the Regional Emmy award,” said Josh
Tomlinson, interim director of broadcasting services at UCM. “It’s a validation of
KMOS-TV’s longtime commitment to producing quality local programming that provides
educational opportunities and entertainment to our viewers of all ages. The collaboration
with ‘Missouri Life' magazine has provided a unique opportunity to share resources
to tell stories about Missouri.”
Once they are submitted, entries will be judged by panels assembled by another NATAS
chapter. The panel will be comprised of no fewer than seven judges who shall be certified
as peers. No more than three judges on a panel may be employed by the same station
or company or have a conflict of interest. KMOS staff members will join panels to
judge entries from other regional NATAS Chapters.
