Vendors Sought for Veterans Summit and Resource Fair Oct. 7

By Jeff Murphy, September 8, 2016

WARRENSBURG, MO – An opportunity to join a dialogue with an Army Ranger who has gained national attention, as well as informational activities focused on the needs of military service members and veterans will be part of the annual Veterans Summit and Resource Fair, Friday, Oct. 7. These free events, which also include sessions that provide interaction with businesses, service providers, and organizations dedicated to those who serve this country, will take place at the University of Central Missouri.

The Veterans Summit and the Resource Fair will run simultaneously from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Elliott Student Union, Rooms 236, 238 and 240. Those in attendance will listen to various panel discussions throughout the day and have the opportunity to visit with vendors who will share information about resources and services available to active duty military personnel, veterans and their families. Opportunities for vendors are still available to provide information on a variety of topics that include personal security, transition adjustment, mental and health care issues, domestic violence, employment, financial aid, sexual assault/trauma and more. Veteran-friendly employers who are seeking people to fill positions also are encouraged to participate.

Panel discussions at the Veterans Summit will provide an opportunity for participants to interact with experts, share their experiences, and take part in question and answer sessions. A special guest, Army Ranger Chris Bemiss, will lead a “conversation” with the audience at this event. His heartfelt story is the focus of a 2015 film documentary, “The Ranger,” which recounts his journey from the battlefield to dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder, and overcoming life-changing obstacles posed by injuries he sustained during his Army service.

Visitor parking will be at the west lot of the Multipurpose Building. UCM will provide a small shuttle to transport individuals to and from the parking lot to the Veterans Summit and Resource Fair.

Vendors can register to host an informational table by downloading and submitting the Vendor Registration Form. For additional information, contact Delilah Nichols, coordinator of Military and Veteran Services, at 660-543-8977 or nichols @ucmo.edu.
