UCM’s Engineering Technology Program Earns ABET Accreditation

By Mike Greife, October 13, 2017

WARRENSBURG, MO – The Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology degree in the School of Technology at the University of Central Missouri has been accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. The accreditation status is applied to the four program options of electronics, mechanical, industrial and civil.

ABET accreditation assure that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies and anticipating welfare and safety needs of the public.

“Most engineering and many engineering technology programs around the country are ABET accredited,” said Troy Ollison, program coordinator. “This puts the Engineering Technology program at UCM in good company and assures that our graduates have the knowledge and skills to be competent engineering technologists.”

ABET’s voluntary peer-review process adds critical value to academic programs in the science, technology, engineering and math  disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance. Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities and institutional support and are conducted by teams of professionals from industry, academia and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.

ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. It currently accredits 3709 programs at more than 750 colleges and universities in 30 countries. More information about ABET can be found at www.abet.org.
