WARRENSBURG, MO – The result of a positive relationship with a company that hires University of Central Missouri graduates, four UCM graduate students were recently awarded $1,000 scholarships from Chelsoft Solutions Company, a global professional information technology services company in Kansas City.

The scholarship awards were made possible through a gift to the UCM Alumni Foundation. Scholarship recipients were publicly introduced at the conclusion of the recent Big Data and Analytics Series presentation coordinated by faculty members in the Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Big Data and Analytics programs within the Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies.

Award recipients were Computer Information Systems students Ishwarya Arabandi, Miryalguda, India; Sneta Kayastha, Kathmandu, Nepal; Geetha Sravya Thadi, Hyderabad, India; and Big Data and Analytics student Rakesh Bondalapati: Hyderabad, India. The awards were presented by Joey McMullen, manager of operations for Chelsoft.

Kiran Chelluri, president of Chelsoft Solutions Company, has hired a number of UCM students. He commented on what has contributed to the university-business relationship that has made Chelsoft Solutions scholarships possible.

“CIS curriculum prepares its students to fit the industry needs. We are extremely satisfied by the quality of the students' skills from CIS and Big Data and Analytics,” he said. “Our clients are very happy by the caliber of students we deliver to them. Chelsoft Solutions Co. and the CIS partnership is a winning combination, and we look forward to taking it to the next level.  We thank the department, faculty for supporting and mentoring its students for their career path.”

In addition to their financial awards, students also were presented plaques provided by faculty in the Harmon College. The award presentation took place after a standing-room-only crowd in a classroom in the Ward Edwards Building heard remarks from Raj Nair, chief executive officer and co-founder of Yotabites Consulting LLC, on “The Role of Big Data and Analytics in a Digitized World.” The event on Nov. 16 was the second segment of a two-part series on Big Data and Analytics that was initiated this fall. Additional programs are planned for the spring 2019 semester, according to Prasad Rudramuniyaiah, Ph.D., assistant professor, computer information systems, big data and business analytics.

Rudramuniyaiah praised and thanked Chelsoft Solutions for its support for UCM students as well as the university’s Office of the Provost, Dean of the Harmon College, and faculty members in CIS and Big Data and Analytics programs who have supported the new lecture series during the fall semester, and the UCM Alumni Foundation.
