WARRENSBURG, MO – With a projected increase in employment opportunities that exceed the national average between now and 2026, individuals entering the field of construction management have strong job potential, and the University of Central Missouri is one of the best places in the nation to prepare for such careers. That is the opinion of Best Value Schools, which recently released rankings naming UCM 10th on a list of 50 Best Value Schools for Construction Management in 2019.

The study conducted by Best Value Schools ranks the university bachelor’s degree program in construction management among the nation‘s best based on a methodology that considers factors such as student involvement, high-quality curriculum, affordability and wide appeal.

Best Value Schools achieved its ranking using the College Navigator database to acquire a list of all colleges and universities in the United States to offer Bachelor of Science degrees in in construction management. It collected data related to five metrics which were equally weighted: accreditation, degree popularity, program enrollment, graduation rate, and net price. The results were published in an online feature which describes each of the top 50 schools.

“The University of Central Missouri’s 4-year Construction Management Bachelor of Science Degree is not only among the most affordable schools for construction management, it’s also one of the very best. With ATMA and ACCE accreditation, recognition from the Chartered Institute of Building in the United Kingdom, and a host of prestigious need and merit-based scholarships for construction students, UCM makes it easy to earn a world-class education for not much more than the cost of attending community college,” notes Best Value Schools in the organization’s online rankings article.

It adds that the university’s impressive student-faculty ratio “guarantees that every student will receive plenty of individual attention along with their path to becoming successful leaders in the field.”

According to Best Value Schools the Bureau of Labor Statistics has projected that employment for construction managers will increase by 11 percent from 2016 to 2026, which is faster than the national average for all occupations.

Construction managers have the ability to organize and oversee construction teams to ensure quality standards are being met and the project is finished on deadline. One of the advantages of having a construction management degree, Best Value Schools notes, is that students can pursue other positions, although they may require additional education. Some graduates may consider becoming attorneys who specialize in construction, construction managers, or architects. Because the degree requires majors to develop business knowledge and skills, students also graduate from the construction management program with preparation that can assist them in the business world. UCM graduates who have completed a BS in Construction Management currently use their knowledge to oversee many different aspects of multi-million dollar projects; coordinate and supervise all contractors and subcontractors; and facilitate communication between all project team members.
