WARRENSBURG, MO – A national effort that dates back to 2016 and originated among women, #MeToo is a social movement that encourages survivors of sexual misconduct to speak out about their experiences as a way to help fight against sexual harassment and violence. If you have stories that connect you to this movement and would like to share them,  the University of Central Missouri is providing an opportunity for you to do so in an event planned for 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 in Elliott Student Union 236.

Titled #MeToo@UCM Speak Out, the event is being coordinated by Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGS), with assistance from WGS interns at UCM. It is open to all who are interested, and individuals who wish to contribute are encouraged to submit their own stories, poems, or songs to be shared at the event. This opportunity is open to all UCM faculty, staff, students, and community members, and the deadline to share materials is April 10. Individuals can share their stories in person or anonymously. Submissions should be sent by email to MeTooatUCM@gmail.com.

Faculty members who want to offer extra credit for students who attend are encouraged to do so. Organizers also can provide extra credit “tickets” to these students.

Individuals who would like additional information about the event also may contact Dr. Sarah Ray Rondot, director of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, at rondot@ucmo.edu.
