Minority Opportunities for Research and Education in STEM (MORE STEM)
Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP)
The LSAMP is a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant funded program which assists universities and colleges in their efforts to significantly increase the numbers of minority students matriculating into and successfully completing high quality degree programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines in order to diversify the STEM workforce. Particular emphasis is placed on transforming undergraduate STEM education through innovative, evidence-based recruitment and retention strategies, and relevant educational experiences in support of racial and ethnic groups historically underrepresented in STEM disciplines: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians and Native Pacific Islanders.
The LSAMP Program priorities are to:
- Increase individual student retention and progression to baccalaureate degrees for underrepresented racial and ethnic groups,
- Enable successful transfer of underrepresented students from 2-year to 4- year institutions in STEM programs,
- Increase access to high quality undergraduate research experiences, and
- Facilitate seamless transition of underrepresented students into STEM graduate programs.
About MoLSAMP
The MoLSAMP alliance is a collective of universities from the State of Missouri who applied for and received the NSF grant with the goal of finding educational solutions to address the gap in the enrollment, retention and graduation rates of underrepresented STEM students throughout the state.
