Aviation Minor

Take off to an interesting and exciting career with an Aviation minor from the University of Central Missouri.

Our Aviation minor adds value and marketability to your undergraduate degree. You’ll learn about aviation’s past, present and future and choose related courses based on your interests and goals. Upon graduation, you’ll have a solid understanding of industry challenges and opportunities and be prepared to lead in your future career.

You can pair our Aviation minor with any non-Aviation major to enhance your undergraduate studies and give you the knowledge and skills to be successful — whichever career you choose. Agriculture, Business and Criminal Justice are popular majors to pair with our Aviation minor because they allow students to explore the use of aircraft within their industry.

What you will study

The University of Central Missouri’s Aviation minor program coursework will provide foundational knowledge about the history of aviation, as well as its current challenges and opportunities for the future. You’ll also complete private ground school training — the same training that pilots complete — at UCM’s Max B. Swisher Skyhaven Airport, the only university-owned airport in Missouri. Three aviation-related electives round out the undergraduate program. You can pursue a Private Pilot License by completing flight training or choose from popular courses such as:

  • Corporate Aviation Management: Learn the managerial, administrative and financial business functions related to the use of business aviation aircraft.
  • Aviation Weather: Discover how to interpret aviation weather reports and forecasts and understand hazards that may affect your operations.
  • Private Pilot Certificate: Gain the ground school knowledge needed to prepare you to take the FAA examination for the Private Pilot Certificate.
