Coaching Minor

Leading Youth in Sport

The Minor in Coaching prepares students for potential opportunities in coaching. This minor allows student to focus on their sport of interest while gaining practical experience in coaching. Certification to coach is not required in the state of Missouri. UCM does not confer teacher certification for this minor.

Coaching Course Descriptions

  • PE 4550, Intro to Coaching: Students are introduced to coaching as a profession. This general overview of coaching addresses standards, responsibilities, philosophy, and issues in coaching.
  • PE 4551, Fundamental Techniques in Coaching: Students are introduced to coaching as a profession. This general overview of coaching addresses standards, responsibilities, philosophy, and issues in coaching.
  • PE 4560, Coaching Sport Analysis: Students perform an in-depth study of the theory and coaching of a particular sport.
  • PE 4561, Coaching Practicum: The student completes a 100-hour (minimum) practical experience observing and coaching.
