Electrified Vehicle Systems Certificate

The Electrified Vehicle Systems Certificate at the University of Central Missouri prepares students and working professionals to understand, diagnose and support the rapidly growing field of advanced mobility.

What you will study

The certificate requires 13 credit hours of coursework designed to move you beyond theory into the practical skill sets expected in modern mobility careers. While completing the certificate, you will study core technical topics and engage in an applied project or capstone-style module where you can analyze vehicle subsystems, simulate EV powertrains or develop diagnostic case studies.

Key course highlights and focus areas include:

  • High-Voltage Safety and Electrified Vehicle Fundamentals: Learn critical safety procedures, PPE concepts, hazard awareness, lockout/tagout principles and basic vehicle architectures.
  • Battery and Energy Storage Systems: Explore battery pack structures, battery management systems (BMS), thermal considerations and state-of-health concepts.
  • Electric Machines, Drives and Power Electronics: Study how motors, inverters, converters and regenerative braking move energy through a vehicle.
  • Charging and Hydrogen Refueling Infrastructure: Examine Level 1, Level 2 and DC fast charging systems, communication protocols, grid impacts and fuel-cell infrastructure.
