Individualized Majors and Minors

Under certain circumstances, when current program offerings do not meet the needs of a student, an individualized major or minor could be considered. Individualized majors and minors allow students to create an academic program that is personalized to meet their educational and career goals. Students may request an individualized undergraduate major or minor not listed in the Undergraduate Catalog, but consisting of courses currently offered. An individualized program requires thoughtful planning and collaboration with the department chair of the individualized major or minor.  Department chairs have the right to deny an individualized major or minor not based on these principles. An individualized major must satisfy all baccalaureate requirements including General Education requirements.

There are two types of individualized majors and minors:

  • Named Individualized Majors or Minors
  • General Studies Individualized Majors

Additional information on the Named Majors or Minors and General Studies Individualized Majors or Minors can be found in the undergraduate catalog under Additional Academic Opportunities.

For more information about individualized major and minor programs, contact the Office of the Registrar (WDE 1000, 660-543-4900).
