Beta Alpha Psi (BAP)

Beta Alpha Psi is an honor organization for financial information students and professionals.  The primary objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field.  This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance, and information systems; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals; and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.

The Beta Alpha Psi Board of Directors just announced that our chapter has been recognized internationally as a Superior Chapter. "Recognition as a Superior Chapter is a significant accomplishment. Under the leadership of Dawn Anderson and Janice Klimek, the Iota Mu Chapter has far exceeded the baseline requirements of Beta Alpha Psi and has excelled in the areas of academics, professionalism, and leadership."

Accounting Students Association

The Accounting Students Association offers great opportunities for students with an interest in accounting to get involved outside of the classroom.  This organization orients students to the Accountancy major and the profession.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $53,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

The Accountancy Program offers VITA on campus each tax season. Students attend training sessions to become certified and then volunteer to prepare both resident and non-resident income tax returns for UCM students, staff and the general public. The hands-on experience gained is invaluable, as is the service provided to our many taxpayer participants.
