Research Description


Chemical Education – Preparing student learning modules that provide an early and ongoing emphasis on molecular symmetry and visualizing spatial orientation of molecules in the chemistry curriculum provide information on how students learn, the factors affecting learning, and the methods for evaluating that learning.


Physical Inorganic Chemistry – Studying the by-product decomposition kinetics of drinking water purification with Dr. Gordon Purser, University of Tulsa, in particular, iron(II) ion reacts with aqueous chlorine dioxide to form iron(III) and chlorite ion, and then chloride ion. 


Number Theory – UCM (Cooper and Boone) manages the largest contribution to the worldwide search for Mersenne prime integers, and discovered three Mersenne prime integers, M43, M44, and M48, in 2005, 2006, and 2013 respectively.  Interested in the connection between chemical periodicity and number theory.
