Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Shantia Kerr Sims earned her BSE in Middle Grades Education from Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia and her MSE in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Instructional Systems Technology and PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Learning Technologies from the University of Minnesota. Before coming to UCM, she worked in both K-12 and higher education settings, including serving as an Instructional Technology Fellow at the University of Minnesota. She has also led several initiatives including the development of a mentoring program designed to ensure the academic success of transfer students and first-generation college students. Her research areas include understanding how technology is used to enhance teaching and learning in a variety of educational settings. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring new technologies, reading, traveling and spending time with family.
