Message from the Chair

Welcome to the School of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Central Missouri. As you explore the information about our school's programs and curriculum and the home pages of some of our faculty and student organizations, you will discover a strong, diverse, and student-oriented academic unit.

Areas of Study

In our school students may choose to major in Actuarial Science and Statistics, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Mathematics, and Mathematics Education. The school also offers the first and only undergraduate Software Engineering program in the state of Missouri. Graduate students may pursue Master of Science degree programs in Computer Science, Cybersecurity and Mathematics. Elementary Education and Middle School-Junior High School majors may elect to minor in mathematics to earn certification to teach mathematics in grades 5 – 9.

Highly Qualified Faculty

By far the greatest strength of the school is its faculty. More than 80 percent of the school's faculty have earned doctorates. Classes are taught by talented, experienced, dedicated, and caring faculty who believe in individualized attention for their students. The active research interests of many of our faculty contribute to the strength of the school's M.S. programs.

The school faculty are committed to conduct both basic and applied research. Each year, faculty members publish their research results on various professional journals and give talks at various professional conferences.

Student Organizations

Because of the diversity of interests among our school majors and minors, the school sponsors five student organizations which meet regularly to discuss topics ranging from career opportunities to new discoveries in computing and mathematical sciences. These include Kappa Mu Epsilon (a mathematics honor society), Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE), a student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, a student chapter of the National Cybersecurity Student Association, The Actuarial Organization, a student chapter of the Mathematical Association of America, and Central Missouri Math Educators.

A growing number of endowed scholarships are awarded each year to school majors and minors. More information about these scholarships and application forms can be obtained by contacting me at the address below.

If you have questions or would like more information about our school and programs, don’t hesitate to contact me.
