Occupational Education

Bachelor of Science

Four-Year Plan

The graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Education will use the knowledge and skill obtained in the program to teach and train people in a variety of settings from education to industry.

The Occupational Education (Occ Ed) program at the University of Central Missouri is a 2 + 2 program intended to compliment and build on a student's Associate's Degree.

Along with the student's core experience, this program will expand career and technical competencies used to perform workplace tasks, including problem solving and critical thinking. The specific area of expertise is determined by the student's previous career and/or junior college program of study and industry experience..

Academic Program

The Occupational Education program provides students with a blend of academic and technical teaching which responds to specific occupational updating, professional growth and enhancement, and state-of-the-art information sharing.

Employment Opportunities

UCM is proud to be recognized as a leading provider of CTE educator training across the state. Graduates of the Occupational Education program teach in multiple career education programs, including comprehensive high schools, area career centers, community colleges, private proprietary schools, industry apprenticeship programs, adult evening programs, public post-secondary programs, and federal Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) programs.

Our graduates use knowledge and skills obtained in the program to teach and train people in a variety of settings from education to industry. To meet students’ needs for timely, convenient delivery, courses are offered online and in regional locations throughout the state.

Student Involvement

Occupational Education students at UCM are encouraged to become members of the Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education (MoACTE), Missouri's professional organization for career and technical educators. Many students also carry certification through various professional organizations within their specialty areas.

There are select scholarships for which Occ Ed students are eligible. However, as this program continues to grow, scholarship opportunities are expanding. UCM awards more than $4 million in merit-based scholarships annually and The College of Education offers several awards specifically for education majors.
