All candidates for the Homecoming King and Queen competition must have earned a minimum

shall be waived if an individual requires less than the aforementioned minimum number
of hours to graduate.
- Each candidate may be sponsored by only one organization. (Residence Hall Council
groupings will be considered ONE organization).
- Each entry must be accompanied by one 8 X 10 color-toned or black/white photograph
in a standing frame. This will be put on display in the Elliott Union display case
and will be available for pickup in the Office of Student Activities by October 30th
at 8am. Any not picked up by Friday, November 2nd at 5 pm will be discarded.
- All candidates and/or campaign managers must attend a meeting scheduled by the Homecoming
Leadership Committee (HLC) for the purpose of explaining rules prior to campaigning.
All infractions will be dealt with as explained in the rules.
- Campaigning shall begin at 12:01 am on Monday, October 15th, and shall conclude at
6 pm on Wednesday, October 24th. (You can have things made before this date, but nothing
can be worn in public till campaigning actually begins.) All campaign must adhere
to the Student Government Association Election guidelines. Active campaigning includes distributing nametags, signs, Facebook, twitter, t-shirts, cell phones and handing
out campaign giveaways, etc.
- All campaign materials must be approved and stamped by the HLC Royalty Chairpersons
(or appointed representative) in the Office of Student Activities, Elliott Union 217.
Must be approved on Friday, October 12th . A representative will be available between
the hours of 8 am and 5 pm. All giveaway items & t-shirts must be approved and can
be email to bergsieker@ucmo.edu or brought by the Office of Student Activities.
- Homecoming Leadership Committee will reserve one table and 2 chairs for each candidate
on the Union Mall area starting on Monday, October 22nd at 8 am to Wednesday, October
24th at 6 pm. The committee will provide music during this time. Candidates and their
sponsoring organization are not allowed to have their own music, speakers or equipment
on the mall area during this time. No electricity will be provided.
- Pets of any kind are not allowed on campus during campaigning.
- Candidates are restricted to 44 posters that are 8.5 x 11 inches to promote their
campaign. All posters will be posted by Homecoming Leadership Committee in academic
building. 44 Posters, that were approved on October 12th, should be turned in by
Monday, October 15th by 5pm to Union 217. No posters may be taped on painted surfaces.
Only one banner for each candidate will be allowed in Elliott Union. Elliott Union
rules are as follows:
Banners
Elliott Student Union banners are authorized to hang from the outside railing in front
of the Union Bowling Center and the outside railing in front of the clock tower. Requests
for inside banner locations will not be accepted. See Campus Posting Procedures for
general posting policies. Forms to reserve banner space are attached but must be turned
into Union 301. Request for banner space must be made in advance. A limit of 12 banners
can be accommodated.
Banners:
- Must be from a registered student organization or department
- Must be professionally made of vinyl, nylon or other approved material with eyelets
for hanging. Due to weather conditions, grommets and wind pockets are suggested.
- Banners must be hung with ties or cords, not tape.
- Absolutely no hand-made paper banners are permitted.
- Must 2’ by 4’. (2 feet high and 4 feet wide)
- Banner must be approved by Emily Bergsieker with your campaign material.
- Banners should be turned in to Friday, October 12th to Union 301 and will be hung
on Monday, October 15th
- You may pick up your banner by October 29th but no later than Friday, November 2nd.
University Housing will work with the Homecoming Leadership Committee to post the
fliers in the halls. Do not remove or cover posters, etc. that are already on bulletin
boards. Please honor any departmental regulations concerning bulletin board use.
- The design of promotional literature is up to the candidates sponsored organization.
I.E. picture, font, etc.
- Organizations cannot actively campaign inside of any University owned buildings on
the day of the said election. Active campaigning is defined as the solicitation of
votes by personal contact or distribution of material containing the likeness or name
of the candidate. During the voting period all interior banners need to be removed
if they are visible from the polling station in the union.
- Candidates are not allowed to wander the residence halls to distribute and solicit
campaign material. University Housing does not allow any soliciting in the halls,
so this should not happen during Homecoming.
- Gambling, with only a few exceptions, is illegal in Missouri. Those exceptions are
restricted and highly regulated. There are many types of gambling. Promotions that
award prizes may be called contests, sweepstakes, lotteries, raffles, drawings or
games. Three elements make up an illegal promotion: prize, chance and consideration
Prize is any benefit, cash or property awarded a winner. Chance means the winner
is chosen by "luck" with little or no skill or ability involved. Consideration is
the exchange of something of value for the chance to win a prize. A raffle is when
a participant buys a ticket for a chance at a prize, with the winner determined by
a random drawing. Raffles and sweepstakes are popular money-making efforts. Missouri
law is clear, however, concerning which groups may legally sponsor these promotions.
- Balloting shall be by secret ballot. Polls are open between the hours of 8am – 6pm
both Tuesday and Wednesday. If you are not able to vote electronically and you request
a paper ballot a UCM Student I.D. must be provided for verification of 700#’s.
- All male & female candidates will be introduced at the comedian prior to the performance
or during an intermission. Then after the comedian the top 5 finalist for both men
and women candidates will be announced. The top five king and queen candidates will
also participate in the pep rally and homecoming parade. The queen and king will be
announced during halftime at the Homecoming football game.
- No faculty, administration, support staff member or alumni shall be eligible to vote
in the election unless currently enrolled as a student.
- Each sponsoring organization is responsible for providing transportation, including
the driver, for its candidate in the Homecoming parade. (Provided the candidate is
in the top five after the election.) The Homecoming Leadership Committee will provide
signs for the cars. (The organization need not fill out a parade form for its candidate).
- All infractions of the rules should be reported to the Homecoming Leadership Committee
Royalty Chairperson, who will decide if the infraction is severe enough for review
and\or action along with the rest of the HLC. If a candidate is disqualified the candidate
with the next highest score will take their position.
- The Homecoming King and Queen will be chosen based on the judging criteria that includes
50% Popularity (Student Voting), 25% Interview Score, and 25% Tri-Fold Poster Score.
- In the case of a tie the first determining factor would be the number of student votes.
If the amount of votes are the same then the candidate with the highest cumulative
GPA will be the winner. In the unlikely case that, that is a tie the interview scores
will be used. The student with the highest interview score will be the winner.
- The top 20 candidates must create a tri-fold poster following the Royalty Tri-fold
Poster guidelines. Candidate’s tri-fold topic will be drawn at registration on Wednesday,
October 3rd
FYI: You can get posters made at other places other than just Printing Services on campus! Also,
