Employees on the third floor of the Administration Building must now get used to work without a warm smile and friendly “hello” from Ben Edmondson when encountering him in the building hallway. After 25 ½ years, he has retired as director emeritus of accounting services.
Mr. Edmondson enjoyed a long career in accounting that began with positions at Continental Airlines and Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., where he was a business manager and controller. He came to Central in 1974 as business manager for Accounting Services, but as the position evolved, he became director overseeing areas such as Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
As an accounting professional, he constantly searched for ways to improve efficiency through new technology. He takes great pride in his 1979-80 cooperative effort with Computer Services to develop a new computer accounting system for the campus. He also served as the university project leader to develop specifications, bid, evaluate, purchase, install, train personnel, and oversee a new on-line computer accounting system beginning in fiscal year 1982. He served as the site representative to the software company and software users’ group until his retirement.
Mr. Edmondson earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, and did post-graduate work at Central and the University of Denver.
He and his wife, Lela, have two sons, Terrance and Thomas.
