Hey, everyone! My name is Kris Howard, Career Counselor in the Gateway Center here at the University of Central Missouri (UCM). My position specializes in helping students succeed and finding the major and career that will best fit you and your future. Maybe you’ve been searching for your place in life or that future career that is going to be the most fulfilling, but maybe you’ve hit a roadblock or don’t know where to search or how to get there. Maybe what you thought was a good fit for you and who you were then is not a good fit for who you are now. That’s where I come in, providing individualized assistance to get you to where you need to be.

For the majority of my life, I have spent it here in Warrensburg, Missouri. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from UCM, I spent eight years in the public education system as an art instructor at the secondary level, while also taking on numerous coaching and advising positions as well. In 2017, I graduated with my Masters of Science in College Student Personnel Administration. Given my education background as well as my propensity for helping students, the role of Career Counselor seemed destined to be in my future, and here I am.

As a first-generation student, I was unaware that the Gateway Center or any resources, for that matter, existed in helping me along this journey. I thought it was all up to me to succeed or fail. If you are a student whose story is similar to mine, know that you do not have to forge this chapter of your life on your own; I’m here to help. Choosing a major is an important decision, but one that doesn’t need to be made alone. If you have questions or need assistance, please reach out.
