Students in several geography courses participated in the preparation of the nomination of the Clinton Square Historic District to the National Register of Historic Places. The Clinton Square, the largest in Missouri, has dozens of historic properties, including the Henry County Courthouse; these properties were researched, described, photographed, and mapped by Central Missouri students.
Students worked with Dr. Legreid in compiling the material and presenting it before the State Review Board in August 2006; the district was named to the National Register in the fall. The Square made national headlines in June when a historic property collapsed, trapping many and killing one, and several adjacent buildings were damaged and condemned.
