Howard Hibdon Honorary Lecture Series: 2008

Kara Dempsey, Graduate Student in Geography at UW-Madison
"Cultural Identity in Architecture: Spanish-Galicia's Cidade da Cultura"

Kara Dempsey is currently conducting her dissertation research, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, investigating the ongoing political and social processes of regional identification. Her particular academic interest includes the study of how landscapes are volitionally employed, manipulated, and contested to influence place-based identity. She is currently applying these studies to the struggle for regional identification by the people of the newly autonomous region of Galicia, in north-western Spain. Kara earned her Master's degree in Geography at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2006.
