State Farm® Marketing & Sales Competition

A Great Partnership!

State Farm and the University of Central Missouri have continued their outstanding partnership to sponsor the annual State Farm Marketing and Sales Competition. The competition, entering its ninth year, showcases students' innovative marketing ideas and their individual sales skills around the youthful auto consumer. Each fall students and faculty from 13 universities across the US, along with representatives from State Farm, come to the UCM campus and Warrensburg community for the competition. The event offers an environment that delivers a unique educational experience along with networking opportunities for the next generation of marketing and sales professionals. Thanks to the continued support from both State Farm executives and staff and the UCM administration, the marketing and sales competition has been a huge success from its inception.

Competition Details

Two students* and one faculty coach are selected from each participating university to represent their school. Each university selects a faculty coach who will assist in the preparation of the students for this competition. The faculty coach will attend the competition in Warrensburg, MO with the students. Market resources and faculty coaches are responsible for helping students prepare for the competition. Training materials are provided to students to assist their preparation.

The competition is structured around three major components.

Marketing Presentation - Students prepare a twenty-minute team presentation on a provided topic, offering innovative ideas and solutions to challenges faced by State Farm and the industry in today's marketplace. Students may incorporate multi-media, video, or any other methods for the presentation.

Sales Role Play (SRP) - Students compete individually in a sales role play scenario. Customers (State Farm associates) are identified and trained as part of the competition. The SRP is designed to reflect an actual scenario that a State Farm agent would experience when interacting with a potential customer. The SRP challenges students to apply proper selling skills. The SRP is based on a scenario provided to competing students at the time of registration.

Customer Service Role Play (CSRP) - Students will also compete individually in a customer service role play scenario. Customers (State Farm associates) are identified and trained as part of the competition. The CSRP scenario is designed to reflect an actual scenario that a State Farm employee may experience. The CSRP challenges students to identify ways to handle a challenging customer situation. The CSRP is based on a scenario provided to competing students at the time of registration.
