Open Doors Report Lists UCM Among State, Global International Student Enrollment Leaders

The University of Central Missouri’s commitment to meet the higher education needs of students across the globe are contributing to international enrollment increases that are the highest in the state among public institutions and have positioned UCM as a national leader in international enrollment. UCM’s status as a popular choice for students outside the country was confirmed in the Open Doors® 2022 Report on International Educational Exchange released in November by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Institute of International Education (IIE).

Missouri Innovation Campus Program's Cybersecurity and Software Development Achieve Registered Apprenticeship Status Through the US Department of Labor

Two Missouri Innovation Campus (MIC) programs were recently named Registered Apprenticeship Programs through the U.S. Department of Labor, following a comprehensive application and evaluation process. The two programs – Cybersecurity and Software Development – are the first MIC programs to earn this designation.

O'Keefe Earns National Recognition as PTPA Programmer of the Year

Having dedicated 40 years to public television at the University of Central Missouri, KMOS-TV staff member Michael O’Keefe was honored as the Public Television Station Programming Association’s (PTPA) Programmer of the Year. The UCM alumnus who serves as the KMOS program director was recognized in a ceremony Nov. 14 in Naples, Florida.

UCM Announces In-state Tuition Rate for Military and Veteran Dependents

While the University of Central Missouri has a longstanding commitment to making higher education more affordable for individuals who currently serve in the military as well as veterans, UCM is not forgetting the families of those who dedicate their lives to this country. When it met on campus recently, UCM’s Board of Governors approved a recommendation to expand the university’s in-state tuition rates to dependents of service members and veterans.

Jingle on the Quad, Giving Tuesday Join Array of Activities for UCM Community, Area Residents to Show Their Holiday Spirit

A campus known for its outstanding traditions, the University of Central Missouri will launch Jingle on the Quad, a holiday lighting ceremony, along with other events highlighting the season Nov. 29–Dec. 1. Giving Tuesday opens these festivities, followed by the Holiday Market, two evenings dedicated to the First Lady’s Holiday Concert Series, and a performance by the UCM Jazz Ensemble. All events are free and open to the public.

University of Central Missouri (UCM) Theatre and Dance and UCM Music present the new musical “The Prom.” Based on the movel by Bob Martin, book and lyrics by Chad Beguelin, and music by Matthew Sklar, the show runs during two weekends at the Highlander Theatre with curtain times at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday Nov 11-12 and Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17-19. A matinee is planned for and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13.

UCM Board Actions Include In-state Tuition for Military Dependents, New Degree Program Options, Building Renovations

In its plenary session Oct. 27, the University of Central Missouri Board of Governors approved two new options to the Bachelor of Science in Design and Drafting Technology program, the demolition and cleanup of select vacant structures on university property, a contract for timber harvesting at the Prussing Farm, a proposal that positively impacts the cost of education for military dependents, and policy changes that apply to UCM emeriti faculty and staff.

Carson First at UCM to Receive NIJ Grant: Will Pursue Study Contributing to Better Understanding of Left-Wing and Environmental Terrorism in U.S.

The principal investigator of a research project designed to develop data sources that could potentially inform law enforcement policy and counterterrorism efforts, Jennifer Carson, Ph.D., professor of criminology and criminal justice at the University of Central Missouri, has been awarded a $506,497 grant from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). This three-year financial award includes collaboration with faculty members at three other institutions in the United States and abroad.

The goal of the project is to make “1” major impact on roadway safety by focusing on school bus stop arm violations throughout Missouri.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) and the National Safety Council (NSC) partnered in the presentation of the second annual Prevention through Design (PtD) Award to Popov.
