UCM Alumni Establish Scholarship Endowment for Participants in KC Lab Funded by Travis Kelce's Foundation

Combining their deep appreciation for the University of Central Missouri with their desire to support students, a Leawood, Kansas, couple has created an endowed scholarship for students who participated in Operation Breakthrough’s Ignition Lab, powered by Travis Kelce’s Eighty-Seven and Running Foundation. The first Homer and Becky Kay “I Matter” Scholarship was awarded in fall 2023 to a young Kansas City resident pursuing his degree in Music Technology at UCM.

Construction Management Alumni Turn Golf into Fundraising Opportunity to Aid Academic Program and Its Students

Members of the University of Central Missouri Construction Management Alumni Committee have turned a popular pastime into a highly successful philanthropic opportunity. By hosting golf tournaments for seven consecutive years, the committee has raised $303,761 to help fund student scholarships and other opportunities to aid and advance UCM’s Bachelor of Science in Construction Management program.

Demonstrating the power of philanthropic support, the University of Central Missouri will celebrate Giving Tuesday on Nov. 28 with the rededication of the James C. Kirkpatrick Library (JCKL) at the facility’s first-floor Read and Relax area. The public is invited to attend the ceremony at noon to hear remarks by university leaders and check out state-of-the-art renovations that include modernized study and collaborative learning spaces, new study nooks, a wellness room, and soft furnishings made possible by the Koch Family Trust.

This busy weekend includes an awards dinner honoring six outstanding Distinguished Alumni, Party in the Park, the annual Homecoming parade and Mules football game.

UCM Celebrates Construction Launch for New Randall and Kelly Harbert Collegiate Golf Center at Mules National Golf Club

With site preparation already underway, the University of Central Missouri on Sept. 22 celebrated the beginning of construction of the new Randall and Kelly Harbert Collegiate Golf Center at Mules National Golf Club. The official launch of the university’s newest construction project took place near the patio area of Traditions, located adjacent to the new facility in the university-owned Pertle Springs.

Recognizing the value of strong professor-student relationships, UCM alumnus Dr. Stephen Lacey and his wife, Ann Lacey, Coppell, Texas, are establishing the John Hess Endowed Chair in Biology or Chemistry for Student Mentorship with a $1 million gift to the University of Central Missouri Foundation. An agreement creating this first-ever endowed chair at UCM was signed formally during a recent ceremony at the W.C. Morris Science Building.

Nationwide Initiative Exemplifies UCM's Motto of 'Education for Service'

Consistent with the University of Central Missouri’s motto, “Education for Service,” the UCM Alumni Foundation has announced the first MuleNation Weeks of Service event. The initiative brings students, alumni and their families together to engage in projects that will benefit communities in Missouri and five other states. This event begins on April 10 and concludes on April 22, which is Earth Day. It takes place during National Volunteer Week, April 16-22.

While showcasing artistic expression in many forms, members of the University of Central Missouri and the Warrensburg community came together Jan. 18 to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr during the Freedom Scholarship Fundraiser at UCM’s Elliott Student Union. The theme for the evening event in the Sandra Temple Elliott Ballroom was titled “Living the Dream: Live and in Color,” utilizing a new format while pursuing giving opportunities to help fund scholarships for students to attend UCM.
