The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), Missouri Prairie Foundation (MPF) and the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation (MCHF) have created a new internship program for students from State Fair Community College (SFCC) and the University of Central Missouri (UCM). The internship will begin in summer 2026 with applications opening in January.

UCM Professor's Research in Prestigious Journal Highlights Critical Decline in Butterflies and Impact on Food Chain

A groundbreaking study published in the prestigious scientific journal Science, co-authored by University of Central Missouri's Dr. Daniel Marschalek and more than 30 other researchers, reveals a troubling 22% decline in butterfly populations across the United States since 2000. This extensive study, one of the largest ever conducted on butterfly communities, raises serious concerns about ecosystems, food security and broader environmental health.
