The University of Central Missouri (UCM) Division of Music will present a faculty recital, “Chez Trompette – Salon Music for Trumpet and Piano,”
at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18.
Alan Wenger, professor of Trumpet and chair of the Division of Music, will perform
in Hart Recital Hall in the Utt Building on the Warrensburg campus. He will be assisted by Mia Kim, professor of Piano, and special guest Mimi Wenger,
who will perform on alto flute.
The program features works by Arban, Arutunian, Blackhorse, Hubeau, and Senee. Admission
is free and open to the public.
The recital is intended to showcase the lyrical quality of the trumpet and is inspired
by the French concept of salon music. The genre, typically written for solo piano
or piano with one other instrument, is traditionally performed in smaller, intimate
settings. Salon music is characterized by short compositions with lyrical melodies,
clear tonal harmony, and immediately graspable forms. It often includes expressive
character pieces and virtuosic showpieces.
