Rose Marie Fowler-Swarts, MS(N); BSN; RN
Rose Marie Fowler-Swarts has been a member of Central Missouri’s faculty since 1995.

Rose Marie teaches the health policy and ethics course and community/mental health nursing at the undergraduate level. She coordinates the community/mental health nursing course and practicum along with coordinating the mentoring program within the nursing department. Rose Marie has served as a preceptor for master’s students.

Rose Marie is interested in research on bio terrorism, disaster nursing,  teaching-learning, workplace issues, and nursing education. She serves as a manuscript reviewer for the journal, Nurse Educator. Rose Marie keeps her nursing skills current  by working at Research Psychiatric Center, and Truman Medical Center in Kansas City.

Professional Involvement
Rose Marie is actively involved in the Lambda Phi chapter, Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society, serving as a member of the finance committee. She also holds memberships in the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Educators.  This fall, Rose-Marie will also become a member of Beta Lambda which is a joint chapter for Sigma Theta Tau between Avila University and UCM.

Rose Marie is active at the University level, serving most recently as the Chair of the Faculty Senate Faculty Awards Committee. She routinely serves as Chair of the departmental faculty search committees. Rose Marie serves on departmental communities such as Curriculum Redesign, Student Nurses Organization, Recruitment/Retention, Admissions and Progression, and Curriculum Committee. She works closely with the ROTC department on campus to offer mentoring events. Rose Marie has offered Basic Life Instructor Training for the staff at Shawnee Mission School District, participated in TB screening at the City Union Mission, participated in health fair screenings with students at the Blue Springs School District, and co-chaired the “Mentoring Your Future for Success” event with members of the UCM ROTC. She serves as a non-compensated Diabetes Educator Consultant.
