Community Standards and Support

Part of the UCM Student Experience and Engagement office

Upholding UCM community standards

As outlined in the UCM Student Handbook, the University of Central Missouri holds high expectations for our students related not only to academic performance, but also to behaviors that affect the campus community as a whole. Our staff work with students who become known to our office as a result of a policy violation; we do this work primarily through utilization of an individualized Learning Action Plan.

As the plan title suggests, our approach is educational, not punitive. We want students to learn from missteps and mistakes, and we work to support them in making safer, healthier choices in the future by providing one-on-one support, online trainings, and other resources to support their success.

Supporting students in crisis

When we know one of our students is experiencing crisis, Community Standards and Support staff are available to provide a wide variety of supports to those students in need, working to help them feel safe and supported.

Staff can help students who are experiencing a crisis in their academic, extracurricular, or personal lives. Support can look like many things, including talking on-on-one; connecting with mental health, substance misuse, or behavioral health resources (both on and off campus); dealing with past traumas or grief; and working through other common - but still concerning - college life experiences.
