University of Central Missouri | Department of Public Safety
The safety of our campus depends on the eyes and ears of our community. If you see something that doesn't seem right, do not hesitate to contact the Department of Public Safety (DPS) immediately.
You can reach a dispatcher 24/7 through any of the following channels:
Emergency: 911
Non-Emergency/Business: (660) 543-4123
DPS Text Line: (660) 422-2632 (Best for discreet reporting)
TIPS Hotline: (660) 543-8477
Emergency Telephones: Use any blue light emergency phone located throughout campus.
When you call or text, be prepared to give the dispatcher as much detail as possible. Use the following checklist:
Location: Be specific (e.g., "Southwest corner of the Elliott Student Union parking lot").
Number of Individuals: How many people are involved?
Physical Appearance: Gender, race, approximate age, height, build, and hair color.
Clothing: Color and type of jacket, shirt, pants, or hat.
Distinguishing Marks: Scars, tattoos, glasses, or unique jewelry.
Vehicle Details: Make, model, color, and license plate number.
Direction of Travel: Which way did they go (e.g., "Heading North on Holden St")?
Weapons: Note if you saw a weapon or if one was implied. Do not put yourself in danger to get this information.
Stay Connected: Do not hang up until the dispatcher indicates that you can do so. They may need to ask follow-up questions as officers arrive on the scene.
Be Specific: Details that seem small to you can be the "missing piece" for an officer.
Trust Your Instincts: If an activity or person makes you feel uncomfortable or "out of place," report it.
