The mission of the Bataan Memorial Death March Team is to train and compete in the Bataan Memorial Death March. The Bataan Memorial Death March is a challenging 26.2 marathon through the high desert terrain of the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. This memorial march is conducted in honor of the heroic service members who defended the Philippine Islands during WWII, sacrificing their freedom, health, and in many cases, their lives. Sponsored by the White Sands Missile Range, the New Mexico National Guard, and the New Mexico State University Army ROTC Department.
The Bataan Memorial Death March Team's entry fees as well as the meal, lodging, and travel expenses are paid for through various funraising activities done by the members of the Team. In previous years, Team members have worked security at events in the Kansas City area such as Cheifs Games and Rockfest. Anyone under contract of the University of Central Missouri ROTC program who is both wiling and able to compete in the 26.2 mile marathon is eligible for membership in the team along with consent from the current Primary Military Instructor. All members of the team have voting rights; however, all final decisions are made at the discretion of the Bataan Team Commander and the Primary Military Instructor.
