Flight Operations Degree

Explore the exciting and complex world of aviation management with a Flight Operations degree from the University of Central Missouri. UCM’s program for flight operations specialists provides hands-on experience and plenty of flight time. At the end of your degree program you’ll be able to qualify for Private Pilot Certificate and Instrument Rating, a crucial step on the path to becoming a commercial pilot.

On board the University of Central Missouri’s fleet of 24 aircraft, you’ll experience flight operations from the crew’s perspective and receive priceless on-site training in flight operations at UCM-owned Skyhaven Airport. Skyhaven is the only university-owned airport in Missouri and is located just three miles from the Warrensburg campus for easy access.

Your flight operations management coursework will prepare you to step into a variety of careers in aviation and the military. Graduate with insight into today’s business practices and practical knowledge of safety in aviation.

What you will study

The University of Central Missouri’s Flight Operations degree program provides a solid grounding to help prepare you for a successful career in flight operations, with specialty skills in business analysis and aviation management.

UCM’s flight operations management coursework also allows you to work toward your Private Pilot certification. Jump-start your training to be a commercial pilot while simultaneously earning your Flight Operations degree, all in just four years.

When you’re not on site at UCM’s Skyhaven Airport, training to be a flight operations specialist, you’ll benefit from small class sizes and student-centered learning on the Warrensburg campus. Your flight operations management courses may include:

  • Private Flight: Gain the knowledge and experience necessary to operate aircraft in solo flight and night conditions.
  • Legal Environment of Business: Explore areas of law that give context to your study of flight operations, such as legal process, business ethics, contracts, torts and employment law.
  • Aerodynamics: Understand the principles of flight, including drag, velocity, lift, thrust and wing loading, and analyze design features in modern aircraft.
  • Corporate Aviation Management: Learn what the role, scope and purpose is of business aviation and how administration and finances differ in corporate versus public flight operations management.
