What you will study

UCM’s Marketing minor shares part of its curriculum with the BSBA Marketing program. You’ll learn how to conduct marketing research, gain insight into customer acquisition and work one-on-one with local businesses to create real-world campaigns.

As a UCM Marketing minor, you’ll take several of the same courses as students pursuing a Marketing major. These may include:

  • Principles of Marketing: Build a comprehensive understanding of marketing theories and how they apply to marketing in fast-moving consumer environments.
  • Professional Sales: Learn the basic selling processes and successful strategies employed by today’s firms.
  • Consumer Behavior: Analyze and interpret information from the behavioral sciences to understand cultural influences and buying habits and motives.

In addition to these core courses, you’ll choose electives suited to your goals and interests. You can choose from courses such as Retail Management, Marketing Research or — one of the most popular courses in this minor — Digital Marketing, which examines how to effectively engage people with interactive and social media.

Our dedicated focus group facility has video capability and one-way observation glass, allowing you to evaluate feedback and make recommendations for product/service improvement.
  • Develop a marketing campaign: Work one-on-one with an actual client to help them reach out to their current customers and explore ways to enter new markets.
  • Sharpen and demonstrate your skills: UCM’s sales labs feature video recording and playback technology to help you sharpen your presentation skills. You can then compete in annual sales competitions on campus sponsored by State Farm and Fastenal, as well as National Collegiate and International Collegiate Sales Competitions, for a chance to win scholarship awards.
  • Learn from today’s marketing professionals: ENACTUS, the world’s largest experiential learning platform, works in tandem with UCM’s Marketing programs. By offering you opportunities to get involved, such as their annual children’s literature event, you can broaden your marketing knowledge.
