Department of Communication

The future of communication is digital — but its purpose will always be to relate meaning clearly and memorably. Learn how to reach your audience effectively with a degree from UCM’s award-winning Department of Communication.

UCM offers four communication disciplines within the Department of Communication

  • Communication Studies: Prepare for a wide variety of exciting careers with sought-after skills in writing, presentation and collaboration with a focus on digital communication.
  • Digital Media Production: Get the hands-on experience you need to produce professional-quality media and prepare for a career in dynamic fields such as journalism, sports or digital cinema production.
  • Communication: Take your career to the next level by specializing in personal, community, professional and/or media-based communication. Qualify for upper-level roles in fields such as news, marketing and public relations, or prepare for postgraduate degrees. UCM’s Master of Arts in Communication is available at our Warrensburg campus or 100% online.
  • Public Relations: Harness the power to shape public perception when you complete one of UCM’s Public Relations programs. At UCM, you’ll learn how to effectively tell a story and be strategic as you navigate positive opportunities as well as times of crisis. Your industry-certified and hands-on training will not only prepare you for work in organizations of all kinds but also help you stand out as you apply for jobs.

Find your Communication, Digital Media Production and Public Relations future at UCM

UCM’s Department of Communication provides practical, hands-on training in industry-leading tools while building your analytical and creative communication skills.

Learn what it takes to produce and deliver meaningful communications, including how to:

  • Create messages that achieve maximum impact on other people, organizations and society
  • Deliver powerful messages through oral and written media
  • Produce digital media messaging from conception to distribution
  • Collaborate effectively in small groups on complex projects

Outside of the classroom, you can gain real-world experience when you choose to complete an internship or work on campus at The Beat radio station or KMOS-TV, UCM's PBS affiliate. You can also join student organizations such as the UCM Radio Club or the UCM Media Creators Association, among others.
