Scholarship Eligibility and Reinstatement Information

Scholarship Eligibility

To be eligible to receive an undergraduate scholarship from University of Central Missouri, a student must:

  1. Be admitted to University of Central Missouri.
  2. Meet minimal criteria as stated in the description of the scholarship.
  3. Maintain regular student status. Students enrolled part-time or those placed on academic probation may not be eligible for a UCM scholarship. Refer to the scholarship description for renewal criteria.
  4. A scholarship recipient may be enrolled in less than 12 hours and receive a pro-rated amount of the award value under the following conditions:
    • Be enrolled in a University-approved internship or student teaching.
    • Be a last semester senior completing a degree program.

Additional Provisions

  • While the Red & Black Scholarship is guaranteed to students who qualify, there will be situations where it could be reduced or removed due to federal regulations to avoid over-awards.
  • A student may benefit from more than one UCM scholarship/program. The combined total from University funding may be used only toward payment of University tuition, non-resident fees, campus housing (double occupancy rate) and meal plan costs. The combined total from University funding may not exceed the recipient’s actual charges for University tuition, non-resident fees, campus housing (double occupancy rate) and meal plan costs.
  • No portion of a University-funded merit scholarship may be disbursed to the recipient in the form of a refund.
  • An eligible student may receive a Missouri Bright Flight Scholarship in combination with the University merit scholarship assistance the individual has been awarded.
  • Funding for the University merit scholarship programs cannot be guaranteed for students who enroll for summer sessions. Depending on the availability of sufficient funding, financial support may be available to qualified summer session students, but cannot be guaranteed. To determine availability email scholarships@ucmo.edu or call 660-543-4541.
  • A merit-based scholarship may be reduced or canceled, if no other aid can be adjusted (Pell Grant, Athletic Grants, Outside Scholarships), when the recipient has reached his/her Financial Aid Cost of Attendance
  • A scholarship may be reduced or canceled if the recipient is found to have fraudulently misrepresented any information on his or her application for admission documents or engages in serious misconduct which results in a disciplinary penalty.

Reinstatement Criteria

A student who fails to meet the renewal criteria of a UCM scholarship may request a file review when his/her cumulative UCM grade-point average meets or exceeds that required for reinstatement, provided the student has also been maintaining full-time enrollment at UCM each consecutive semester.

A file review may be requested by former recipients of the renewable scholarships listed below. Students who meet or exceed the reinstatement criteria for their former scholarship may request a File Review by completing and submitting a brief Reinstatement Request Form prior to the fourth week of the semester.

Please note: The scholarship reinstatement guidelines are applicable to a student who fails to meet the scholarship renewal criteria, which were detailed in each recipient's scholarship award letter.

How do I apply for a UCM Freshman scholarship?

Your high school transcript and the information you provide on University of Central Missouri's application for admission are reviewed to determine your eligibility for freshman academic scholarships. Students must submit the online scholarship application to be considered for UCM’s Missouri Boys State/Girls State Scholarship and UCM Alumni Foundation Scholarships.

Where can I find more scholarships to apply for?

Information about scholarships external to UCM is available in the External Scholarships section on this page.

What do I do if I receive a scholarship check?

Complete details on how to submit your off-campus scholarship check(s) are located on this page under "Submitting Scholarship Checks to UCM."

What if I improve my High School GPA or ACT score? (Incoming Freshmen)

Your scholarship eligibility will be reconsidered if your 7th semester high school cumulative gpa is higher than your 6th semester and/or your ACT composite score improves on or before the April national ACT test. Please note: Scholarship reconsideration is contingent upon receipt of your official 7th semester high school transcript and/or the receipt of your official ACT scores by the Office of Admissions, University of Central Missouri, Ward Edwards 1401, Warrensburg, MO 64093.

What if I lose my UCM scholarship due to ineligibility?

Certain UCM renewable scholarships may be reinstated. To be considered for reinstatement, earn the required grade-point average and maintain status as a full-time (at least 12 undergraduate credit hours ) UCM undergraduate student each semester. See reinstatement information under "Current Students" for more details.

Are scholarships available for transfer students?

Students transferring from an accredited 4-year or 2-year, private or public college or university may be considered for a scholarship.

Do I have to be a full-time student to receive a UCM scholarship?

Most of the UCM scholarships require full-time enrollment (earning a minimum of twelve undergraduate hours per semester at UCM). However, if otherwise eligible, you may be enrolled in less than twelve hours and receive a proportional amount of the award value under the following conditions:

  • Be enrolled in a University-approved off-campus internship
  • Be a last semester senior completing a degree program

Can my conduct affect my UCM scholarship eligibility?

Scholarships may be reduced or canceled if the recipient fraudulently misrepresents any information or engages in serious misconduct warranting substantial disciplinary penalty.
