The Cesar Chavez Scholarship is available through the University of Central Missouri
for a graduating high school senior from the Kansas City metropolitan area, who is
of Hispanic or Latino descent or demonstrates involvement in the Hispanic or Latino
Community, and is planning to attend the University of Central Missouri.
Value: $3,125 per year (renewable 4 years total)
Eligibility: To be considered, a student must:
- Be a graduating senior of a high school located in the Kansas City metropolitan area
(Eligible Kansas City, Missouri counties include: Cass, Clay, Jackson, Johnson and
Platte; Eligible Kansas City, Kansas counties include: Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte);
- Be accepted to the University of Central Missouri;
- Be a U.S. citizen or hold legal immigration status;
- Be of Hispanic or Latino descent or demonstrate involvement in the Hispanic or Latino
community;
- Have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale following the seventh
semester of high school;
- Demonstrate financial need as defined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student
Aid);
- File the FAFSA by the April 1 deadline.
To Apply: Submit the Cesar Chavez Scholarship Application by the Feb. 1 deadline. The Cesar Chavez Scholarship is competitive and limited in number.
Renewability: The Cesar Chavez Scholarship may be received for a maximum of eight (8) semesters of undergraduate study provided the recipient:
- Maintains status as a full-time UCM undergraduate student (12 or more undergraduate
credit hours) each semester, and
- Achieves a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 upon completion of each semester, and
- Must be an active participant in a registered UCM student organization at the time
of renewal, and
- Chavez Scholarship recipients must participate in UCM's Success Coaching/Mentoring
