Career Planning

There are many careers you can consider with a degree in history.  They range from teaching and law to research and writing, from college admissions to business CEO or even politician!  The only limits on how you apply the skills you learn here at UCM are your imagination.

The American Historical Association's recent blog entry on careers with a history degree is a great place to start considering your options.  The Chronicle of Higher Education also recently posted an article on why you should major in the areas that interest you most.

And a degree in history or the humanities does not preclude you from going on to be a famous CEO or world leader either: check out this story by Business Insider about 30 famous CEOs and leaders who have humanities degrees.  History majors you may know include: Joe Biden (Vice President of the United States), Elena Kagan and Antonin Scalia (U.S. Supreme Court Justices), Larry David (creator of the television series Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm), Chris Berman (ESPN anchor), Conan O'Brien (television show host), Steve Carell (actor), Robert L. Johnson (founder of BET network), Chris Hughes (co-founder of Facebook), and locally Michael Stern (Music Director at the Kansas City Symphony).

In the end, programs in the Department of History and Anthropology at UCM prepare you for many careers and options.
