O'Keefe Earns National Recognition as PTPA Programmer of the Year

Having dedicated 40 years to public television at the University of Central Missouri, KMOS-TV staff member Michael O’Keefe was honored as the Public Television Station Programming Association’s (PTPA) Programmer of the Year. The UCM alumnus who serves as the KMOS program director was recognized in a ceremony Nov. 14 in Naples, Florida.

National Safety Leaders Honor Popov with Prevention through Design Award

Dr. Georgi Popov, a university of Central Missouri faculty member who has distinguished himself as a professional leader in the reduction of workplace risks, this month was honored by three national organizations dedicated to safety. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) and the National Safety Council (NSC) partnered in the presentation of the second annual Prevention through Design (PtD) Award to Popov.

Gallery of Art and Design Now Features Student, Faculty and International Shows

Continuing to provide interesting and engaging displays of art by faculty, students and individuals across the nation, the University of Central Missouri Gallery of Art and Design announces three shows that are running concurrently Sept. 26-Oct 27. These offerings are the 2022 Faculty Show, Faculty Portrait Show, and the international show Saccharine and Cyanide by Siobhan Gallagher and Rosa Kusabbi. These exhibits are all free and open to the public in the gallery located at 217 E. Clark St., Warrensburg.

KMOS-TV Receives Two Awards for Family Outdoor Event

KMOS-TV won two awards in recognition of excellence in the creation and promotion of the “KMOS PBS Adventure Day,” a nature-themed family event conducted in partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Jefferson City-based Runge Conservation Nature Center. These awards were presented during a ceremony Sept. 18 in Charlotte, North Carolina by the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA). KMOS was one of many stations nationwide honored for their work in education, community engagement, marketing/communications and content creation.

Dedication to Helping Students Succeed Results in National Recognition for Two UCM Members with Roles in Academic Advisement

After honoring a University of Central Missouri faculty member in 2021 with the Global National Academic Advisement Association’s (NACADA) Outstanding Advisor Award, NACADA this year is recognizing both a faculty and staff member with one of its prestigious honors. Matthew J. Garver, Ph.D., is receiving the Global NACADA Outstanding Advisor Award – Faculty Advising Role, and Jacqueline Faria is being honored with the Global NACADA Outstanding Advisor Award – Primary Advisor Role.

Fourth-Generation UCM Alumna in IMC Honored with Foster-Inglish Prize

As a member of a family that produced four generations of University of Central Missouri graduates, Ellen Blaize has a lot of appreciation for her alma mater, and sharing her passion for UCM through her work in the Office of Integrated Marketing and Communications is getting noticed. She was recently recognized as the recipient of the 2022 Carl B. Foster/John M. Inglish Prize for Outstanding Achievement and Service in Public Relations.

Sgt. Joe Jennings, a University of Central Missouri alumnus and member of Public Safety, was presented the Justin W. Stephan Public Service Award from the Executive Committee of the American Legion Missouri Boys State, Inc. on Saturday, June 18, in St. Charles, Missouri. Jennings, whose work and love for public service exemplifies the spirit the award’s namesake, was honored for his tireless public service to the state and community as well as to the Boys State program.

Nic Webb, DNP, an associate professor and chair of the University of Central Missouri School of Nursing, has been named to a new cohort of higher education professionals across the nation who are participating in the 2022 Emerging Leaders Program (ELP). Webb, who travels to the nation’s capital June 15-17 to participate in the program, is one of 36 individuals who are part of this a premier leadership development initiative established by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).

A former University of Central Missouri president has collaborated with two other researchers and writers on a new book with information they hope readers will take to heart. Their timely new publication, “Keys to Healthy Communication: Authenticity, Empathy and Empowerment,” provides a literary tool-kit that applies to personal, interpersonal, business and political situations, while offering practical guidance for the effective use of three essential communication concepts that could help people transform their lives.

During an annual awards breakfast hosted by the University of Central Missouri Staff Council, two individuals who have made a positive impact on the institution were recognized for their outstanding contributions. Charissa Davis, assistant director of financial aid, was honored as the 2022 recipient of J.P. Mees Outstanding Professional Staff Award and Gwena Basinger, administrative assistant to the dean in the Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies, was presented the Outstanding Staff Award.
