Returning to his Missouri roots, Matt Howdeshell, the University of Central Missouri’s new Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, addressed members of the campus and Warrensburg communities during a press conference May 12 at the Multipurpose Building. In his remarks, he stressed the importance of developing strong relationships on campus, and with alumni, donors and the local community to build an athletic department for the future.

Roger Best, president of the University of Central Missouri, has selected Matt Howdeshell as the university’s next Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. Howdeshell will join UCM June 19, 2023, after serving in athletics at Northern Arizona University for more than 12 years.

The presentation of five individual awards honoring the achievements of exceptional faculty members, students and alumni and the conferring of degrees on hundreds of graduate and undergraduate students will highlight 2023 Spring Commencement exercises at the University of Central Missouri. While all students who have completed their degree requirements are not expected to participate, more than 2,000 new graduates are eligible to walk in one of four ceremonies planned the weekend of May 5-6 in the Multipurpose Building.

Dr. Suhansa (Sue) Rodchua, a University of Central Missouri faculty member in the School of Industrial Science and Technology, in March traveled overseas to participate in the Lean Japan Tour. The purpose of her visit was to learn about lean manufacturing implementation and the Toyota Production System within some of Japan’s leading companies.

With a tight window for planning, design and fabrication, a team of Engineering Technology students at the University of Central Missouri are celebrating a sixth-place finish in the 2023 NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge. The event, which included teams from approximately 40 institutions from around the world, took place Friday and Saturday, April 21-22 at the Marshal Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Two individuals who have had an impact on University of Central Missouri students entering the safety profession, Bruce Lyon and Georgi Popov, have been honored as Fellows by the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP). They are among three 2023 recipients of this award which is the highest honor given by the Society in recognition of their significant contributions to the occupational safety and health profession.
